Radishes are a cool-season vegetable, which means they prefer lower temperatures. You can begin sowing radish seeds in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, generally in April. You can also sow a second crop in late summer or early fall.

They prefer well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Before planting, work the soil deeply to loosen it and remove any stones or debris. If your soil is clay or sandy, you can improve it by adding compost.

Sow the seeds directly in the soil about 1 cm deep. Space them 2–3 cm apart so the radishes have room to develop fully. Rows should be at least 30 cm apart.

Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid overwatering because it can encourage excessive leaf growth at the expense of the roots. Thin the radishes if needed to give them room to develop. They generally do not need fertilizer if the soil was properly prepared.

Radishes grow quickly and can be ready to harvest just three to four weeks after planting. Harvest them as soon as they reach the desired size to prevent them from becoming too large and fibrous. They are best when crisp and juicy, so feel free to eat them right after harvesting.
