Joual Vert

Pak choi is a popular Asian vegetable that adds an unusual, nutritious touch to your garden. Even in Quebec’s variable climate, it is entirely possible to grow this healthy, delicious vegetable 🥬

Pak choi prefers cool weather. Start the seeds indoors about four to six weeks before the expected last spring frost, or sow them directly outdoors two to four weeks before the last frost.

It prefers well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Add compost to improve soil fertility.

Sow the seeds about 1 cm deep and 20 cm apart. Pak choi plants need room to develop.

Pak choi needs consistently moist soil to grow well. Water regularly, especially during dry periods.

Fertilize with a balanced organic fertilizer to encourage healthy growth.

It can be affected by pests such as aphids and slugs. Inspect your plants regularly and use organic control methods if necessary.

Pak choi can be harvested as soon as the leaves reach the desired size, generally 30–45 days after sowing. You can harvest individual leaves or cut the whole plant at the base.
